(Winnipeg, MB Tuesday, August 15th / 17) – Team Manitoba finished the 2017 Canada Summer Games with strong showings both in the team and individual competitions.

In the Girls Division, Team Manitoba finished in fourth place which is the strongest team finish for Manitoba since golf’s inception into the Canada Summer Games.

Winnipeg’s Camryn Roadley (Southwood) was the low Manitoban with a four-round total of 309 (+21) which was good for 11th place.  Brandon’s Bobbi Uhl (Shilo) finished 12th with a four-round total of 313 (+25) and Niakwa’s Rebecca Kuik was 14th with a four-round total of 321 (+33).

Ryan McMillan (Elmhurst) was the low Manitoban male finishing 8th in the Individual Division with a four-round total of 291 (+3).  Team mates Zach Wytinck (Golf Manitoba Public Player Club) and Spencer Norrie (Minnewasta) also had very good showings with Wytinck finishing 17th with a total of 300 (+12) and Norrie finishing T18th (301 – +13).

The Boys Team finished the 72-hole event in a three-way tie for third place.  A playoff took place with Team Alberta and Team New Brunswick for bronze with Team New Brunswick winning the medal on the third playoff hole.

Congratulations to Manitoba’s golf athletes on a fine showing at the 2017 Canada Summer Games.  These young athletes represented Manitoba extremely well both on and off the golf course.

Golf first became a participating sport in the Canada Summer Games in 2009 in Prince Edward Island.  The Boys Team that year finished 4th and the Girls Team finished 6th. Individually, the low Manitoban boy was Rossmere’s Ryan Pitzel (8th) and the top Manitoba girl was Selkirk’s Lindsay Stewart (15th).

At the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, QC, the Boys Team finished 6th and the Girls Team finished 7th.  The low Manitoba male athlete was Travis Fredborg of Pine Ridge (12th) and the low female was Southwood’s Veronica Vetesnik (12th).
